Bananas!

The food, not the state of mind!

I hear banana is a good snack when out riding.
The problem is, I can't eat them (due to medical issues I'm on a really restricted diet).

What do you recommend as an alternative (has to be very low fat, fairly low protein....sugar is ok!)
Also, do you just drink water or an energy drink?
My energy levels tend to drop quite quickly - maybe a bottle of water and a sports drink?

I tend to water down energy drinks & take 2 on longer rides. I sometimes take a folding water bottle with orange squash aswell in my back pocket.

Could you take mini soreen or flapjack? Thats good for long rides.

Eat porridge before you go out for a ride. Oats are really good slow burn carbs that will fuel you for a long ride.

I quite like dates.
s7ephanie...I know! I used to love bananas and I *may* be able to eat them next year (after the op) but for now they land me with a trip to A&E!

Have a look at Soreen Go bars they're gorgeous and 95% fat free. Unfortunately only Waitrose seem to sell them...not sure if you can get them elsewhere online though.
