You can cut them a bit of slack for the cover art on 'Happy Trails' can't you?

More than that.

Whilst the vocals on Fresh Air are clearly rather tiresome, Mona and the Who Do You Love suite on Happy Trails are masterpieces of shimmeringly atmospheric, improvisational psychedelic D'Iddleyesque wizardry. The uninitiated should apply high volume, cranked bass and decent reproduction to the following samples to gain the full advantage.......

Mona
Who Do You Love
When You Love
How You Love

Happy Trails is admittedly a majorly standout recording, somewhere between the instrumental luminaries that were the Doors and Dead, but its ultra-high calibre alone renders QMS's legacy significantly better than the fairly decent band name.

Once upon a time? Once upon a time? Are you in some time-warp and ignoring how good they are today? They are at the peak of their monumental talent at the moment. That's no joke. I'd get acquainted with 'Achtung Bono', 'Cammel Laird Social Club' and 'CSI: Ambleside' if I were you.

Any band who writes the lyric "I went to a Bootleg Beatles gig dressed as a Bootleg Mark Chapman" deserves........

I agree, it is a piss poor name, but still, IMHO, meets the OP's criteria.

I take your point.

Atomic Thunder P*ssy, iirc were a sh*t band but had a great band name. Never got into Halfman Half Biscuit, did used to listen to them on John Peel.

I actually like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers myself. The Californication album is superb, they werent commercial at all, and all of a sudden all the trendies decided to adopt that album as theirs'. BSSMagic is one of the greatest rock albums of all time.

Metal band Paradise Lost had some good tracks, even one great album (Host, surprisingly all electronic) but on the whole never lived up to their moniker's routes.

1) The BAND don't write lyrics, only Nigel Blackwell does
2) Nigel Blackwell didn't write the lyrics you seem to be struggling with. It went 'I’m off to see the Bootleg Beatles, as the bootleg Mark Chapman'.

And that's as good a smart-start as exists!
