Ok. I have a "customised" Carrera Fury MTB and have been using it for my commute to work, going to the shops and local CTC sunday rides.
I already have a rear rack and would like to do some touring over the next few months. I would like to fit a barbag but am not sure as the gear and brake cables may get in the way. Can barbags be fitted at an angle? another thing bothering me is mounting my AYUPS if need be with a barbag set up.
Any suggestions? (I can't afford a new bike at the moment, either)

I've got this one-

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/Cycle/7/Topeak_TourGuide_Bar_Bag/5360012011/

It fits fine on a Dawes MTB tandem. It also came with a bracket for a computer -it replaces the space taken up by the bag on the bag- though I'm not sure whether ayups would fit on it without the beam being fouled by the bag.

Thanks for that Mr P.

Will have a look ;)

I've used an Altura Arran on an MTB with no ill-effects... arugably it's much easier to fit one on a MTB compared to a road bike with Shimano STI due to the run of the cables.

Me too, it is very easy to fit with the quick release fixings. No good for proper off-road though - I found it very difficult to steer in narrow singletrack with the extra weight on the bars, and not being able to see the front wheel.
