So tuesday i tried to buy a train ticket, it failed. odd thought i, so i went to the counter instead of the machine and bought one there without issue.
must be an issue with the machine.
later on i tried putting the lottery on using the online thing, i couldn't add credit using my card.
alarm bells ring.
so i popped to the local cash machine and attempt to take money out, no dice.

nothing wrong with my card, no damage, and the expiry is 2015.
i walks into to barclays and the nice chap behind the counter takes a look at what's going on.
Turns out barclays decided to issue me a new card, no request for a new card received from myself or anyone else like, no they just decided to send me a new one.
the card was sent monday morning.
so they then decided to terminate my current card tuesday afternoon.
i have been without a debit card now since tuesday, the promise was that it should show wed or thurs.
nothing.
i now have to rush to barclays in another town to get an emergency card printed otherwise i can't use my account this means leaving work early which i can't really complain about but the point is i shouldn't have to.
what the flying flip were barclays thinking? what possible reason would they re-issue a card for? apparently the system doesn't say anything so my plan is to complain like an old jew (channeling my nan here, rest her bones) to the manager at the town branch and demand recompense.
also going to eat a tonne of onions before hand just for evils.
anybody else ever get this?

Thats odd, I'd investigate it further, maybe someone tried to get another one. Alternatively, you could of called them and they would reinstate your current card for 24hours or so before they re shut it down.

Not sure that would be possible.

My bank (not barclays) spotted some fraudulent activity on my credit card. When I phoned them up to confirm that I hadn't spent the things they were querying, the dozy cow on the phone cancelled my cash card by mistake. She realised straight away, but said she could not reinstate so I would have to wait for a new card. And my credit card was (correctly) also cancelled. Good thing I had enough cash in my purse for the next few days!

RBS did the same thing to me.

When I asked about it, they told me it was because my new card was a 'contactless' one. It's been a year, and I've yet to see a contactless card machine.

Oh ok maybe it was just me. I received a new card but never got it (well, it arrived but I was away up North for uni and those at home misplaced the envelope) so they lady said she would reinstate my card till the new replacement came.

I suppose the scenario is different, With yours being fraudulent activity occurring,

Yeah, they couldn't re-enable it, thing is this card is a contactless. i honestly have no idea why they've re-issued. the guy checked and nobody's requested a new card its just so bloody random.
meh, with luck i can get a new one printed later but the manager is going to get an earful (cause that's their job)

If you paid for the ticket, you should have been issued with one.
don't follow, the automatic machine filed on my card but the machine at the manned till worked.
timing issue i think.

anyways, had to leave work early on friday, went to my home branch and had a new card printed. however they can't tell me the reason why a new card was issued. the system does not say 0_o
next week i'm going in to see the branch manager because holy crap.

I've used a contactless machine in a motorway service station and at a WH Smiths. They were underwhelming experiences.

I'd be more concerned with where the card they sent out had gone, rather than why it was sent in the first place. If you haven't got it - who has?! Make sure that card is cancelled too or someone could be getting happy spending your cash.

as soon as another card is issued the previous one is cancelled. i checked and both of the cards they've sent out have been canned. i am yet to receive this one they sent out the other day tho. i may contact royal mail also.

Maybe its in somewhere like this. There was a total of 15,000 cards, credit & debit cards, in those cages on the right of the picture.

A few letters dumped by the Royal Mail. So best of luck with them. You're limited on what you can do as you are not the person who lost the item, therefore what they will do is limited.
