Bargain bibs or shorts

Sometimes worth looking in the sales can pick up quality bibs for less than half price. Also I do also think you pay for what you get but alot depends on how much cycling you intend to do.

Has anyone got any experience of pearl Izumi quest or gore contest bibshorts?

At the higher end of my budget but could be convinced with the right recommendation

I've ridden in Gore Power and Oxygen. If the Contest pad is the same spec as those then I'd recommend them. My Power shorts have lasted a long time (2009) and have only recently started to show signs of wear. The material is fine, but the pad is the bit that has worn.

I'm not a big fan of decathlon shorts as I feel you have to spend near to what other brands offer before you get any quality in the pad. They're ok for general kicking about in.

DHB are also great, again had a pair that lasted years!!
