2.8kg sounds a lot without the forks?
 
If I hadn't just picked up a Taurus 531c frame for my next fixed I would have probably taken the risk at that price , actually I might just have a punt if they have any left when I next get paid in all honesty as SJS aren't reknowned for selling rubbish but I wouldn't be expecting to much at £30.00 .

Just out of interest I weighed an old Raleigh Clubman 12 frame that I have hanging on the garage wall which has the main tubes from 531 and it weighs 2.13 kg bare so 670 grams difference between the clubman and the SJS frame , approximately a full bidon then which doesn't seem to bad .

A tenner a kilo doesn't seem too bad. Not sure it would be worth spending loads on lightweight kit, but you could build a reasonable hack bike for not much more than £100/150 I reckon.
