Hi, I'm sorry that nobody has answered your post yet. They must all be either out celebrating or busy wrapping presents.

If I remember correctly wasn't Parkes the forerunner of Sun cycles of Birmingham?
If you look at the previous thread by classic33 he has put a couple of links regarding wheels.
Is the clamp similar to the clamp which holds the Weinmann brake levers on? I was wondering if need be you could modify one of those to fit.
Your bike is coming on.

thanks for the reply
parkes was the chief builder at sun and hand built the frames
the problem with the wheels is that I can find 40 hole 26" but not 27"
I think the clamps are weinmann so have been looking for a cheap det on fleabay but no joy yet

hi thought I would update the rebuild and ask for some help
first the ive stripped down the frame and cleaned everything trying to leave the patina. I am now ready to reassemble but have hit a couple of problems.
trying to source a 27x1/4 inch 40 hole wheel or rim seems nigh on impossible also I need two brake lever clamps (see photo)
any ideas would be gratefully received.
also finaly found the id number but cant find any reference anywere
Regarding the rims http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mach-1-Rim-...516117?hash=item4ac6b7d455:g:kNwAAOxyRHdR3cdn from the USA though.

good news drove 50 miles to a bike shop (not sure if this counts as local) on a recommendation and he had a 40 hole mavic rim :hyper: Its now with LBS to be done. I know these were not the original set up but it will put the parkes on the road were it belongs
by the way the shop was called madgetts in diss and they had some really nice bikes pity the wife was with me

at last I have got the parkes on the road so took it to the pub. it still needs handlebar tape but unsure if I should go white leather or cloth.
the frame is a bit big for my short frame but it is still rideable
the rear cogs are a bit on the small size but this is Norfolk so no big hills but saying that she rides very well and just feels it wants to keep going on and on even in the cross wind on the way home

Nice magpie... quite a transformation from your original pic!... If you're going for a black wrap maybe a black seat too...
