Kes was the first book I bought for myself, because I wanted to read it.

RIP

I had to read it for school. A good book, but it didn't win my heart. The film tie-in edition was still in print then, and that's what we had. For a while (as you can see) Penguin changed the title.

OMG, I was in one of his less famous films, Black Jack. He lived close by and always used locals as extras and "bit parts" Just about everyone from the Chapeltown/High Green area of Sheffield knows at least one person who appeared in one of his films. Sad loss, great guy.

Ken Loach is still alive, it's the writer of the novel A Kestrel for a Knave and the movie adaption who died.

Threads is one of the scariest things ever made, all the more so because of its cheap and gritty lo-fi, no FX approach, which allowed Hines's screenplay to do its job.
