See if you can make any sense of https://www.google.co.uk/patents/US2462455. I tried but got distracted by the mention of a pinion and a member used in conjunction with an annular floating ring. But, anyway, it appears to be a rather badly digitised version of the Bartlett patent.

Having Bartlett's ring wrapped around your axle never caught on! Interesting though, never seen it before. Apart from the marketing blurb, what were the perceived benefits?
