Baton relay

Just seen a thing on the news about the baton relay setting off for (I think) the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, and it occurred to me, each athlete should carry the baton in the manner of their sport. So, runners would get on fine (some would run quicker then others of course and only short bursts), equestrians would be good, so would cyclists, rowers and swimmers would be handy for the wet bits. Javelin people would have to chuck it away, then go pick it up and start from there, long jumpers and tripple jumpers would proceed a couple of metres at a time, and the high jumpers wouldn't get very far at all...

Divers would probably have to be exempt, as would equipment gymnasts...

Table tennis players would be useless....
