BBC and Glastonbury

Can anyone explain to me the obsession the BBC has with Glastonbury ? The BBC webpage has 13 separate articles about the festival on it's front page and that doesn't include scrolling left and right. I understand it is popular, I even went in the mid 1980's, but honestly, does the majority of the population care, or even know it is on ? I find it peculiar to say the least - does the BBC hold shares in the company that runs it or something ?

They are the company that runs all the broadcasting as they have exclusive rights to the festival.
Yes, they do go OTT but it is their flag ship music event along side Last Night of the Proms.
It is comparable with other big events. Wimbledon will be dominating TV for the next 2 weeks. How much resources do BBC send to the World Cup or Olympics?

As said elsewhere, these things are all about the atmosphere and being there.
I cannot think of a worthwhile reason to watch or listen unless I was there and doing catch up/memories.

Aren't the BBC the same with their 'Strictly' annual bore! Getting all excited over embarrassing poncy dancing, while most I know don't, or never have watched it.

I cherry pick my BBC viewing, mainly wildlife stuff, via Piratebay (not banned here).
All else is youtube based, some great documentaries that aren't ruined by twat presenters whose egos get in the way and prove excruciating.
Regularly tune into a few favourite news aggregators too, that are tailored to my particular slant on things.
The once respected BBC seems but a hollow shell now, it's glory days long since passed.

That is a bit rose tinted.
When I was born, less than 50 years ago there were 3 TV channels. The BBC was 66% of everything. And TV shut off at night and sometimes during the day too.
For a while there were 4 then 5 channels.
Now there are 200+ channels on freeview as well as the massive streaming platforms.
No wonder the Beeb is looking a bit hollowed out.

Once I'd noticed it I couldn't unsee it, and for a time I'd use it for comic effect when talking to Mrs Tkk 😁
