I have thought for a long time now, the stock markets around the world dominate the news and if they so desire start to sell, that sends the markets down. So the traders/banks make a killing. Once they have trashed the markets and the price is low enough after a few days, they cash in and start buying at the lower price making a profit. They use any excuse in the financial markets to profit from others loss. Who is responsible for running the world, obviously not the goverments but the financial institutions around the world. We are being taken for a ride by the city, they are the ones making the money and more or less evey one else has to suffer.

I'd love it to be a real trader. Since we're talking TV blunders, here's one from ITV earlier this week where video game footage was "mistaken" for an IRA video.

Bloody useless must have 24hour rolling content must be something new grumble mutter grumble.

Sorry, "same guy" as who?

This bloke, be he legit or a spoofer, is clearly enjoying his 5 minutes (or perhaps his 2 x 5 minutes?). There's something deliberately sensationalist and lacking in considered thought about what he says... so maybe he is a trader! Either way, I don't think I'll be taking action based on what he says.

I find it amazing that so much attention is given to the stock markets. Economies are much more than just stocks and share prices. At least, I hope so! I'd hate to think that peoples livelihoods are in the hands of such self serving vultures.

It's not quite that simple, Paulus - traders can't buy at the bottom of the market unless there are shareholders who think that is the right price and are willing to sell, nor can they sell at the top unless there are buyers willing to pay.

Is a world run by politicians any better? Even the democracies are full of the self-serving, venal, incompetent and egotistical.... How much did TB's messianic escapades cost the citizenry? Or managed inflation/quantitative easing, which robs us just as thoroughly as any investment bank? Or on a smaller scale, every government IT project in the last 50 years? At least with financial institutions you know they are out to part you from your money and can take suitable precautions.

It does sound a spoof though the majority of traders are happy to kill off the weak for a few bucks. There is always part of that at the supposed top. Put enough of them together and it is no doubt just locusts razing a field.

And reputable traders would never use their clients' money to buy at the top whilst they are selling and sell clients shares at the bottom whilst they are buying.
