Can I let you into a secret? About 10 years ago I got serious food poisoning from eating wild mushrooms in a restaurant near Epping Forrest and have avoided them every since.

Is that a polite way of saying "No Thank You, I want to live"?

The sports field just up the road from me happened to be also the local schools playing field which also happened to be the first school that I taught in. The staff dreaded mushroom season. They also dreaded 'frog season - the time of year when juvenile frogs left ponds and went further afield. For a couple of weeks the classrooms would be filled with screaming girls climbing on chairs and desks trying to get away from the frogs that the boys had smuggled in, in their pockets. Thankfully the two seasons didn't coincide.
