...and why do they have to stand outside 10 Downing Street , (in the snow and rain) with a front door in the background. Yes, it's a very nice big shiny front door, but we've seen a thousand times before. Get back to a nice warm studio , mate.

Naw - I wants to see No. 10 as often as possible as I collect Police Constables' Numbers (I'm still looking for PC99) and there is usually one or two hanging about. Saves me having to go all that way to spot em.

+1 to Archie Tect's point.

It really wind me up when I hear on the news that "XXXXX is expected to announce later today that" or "In a speech this afternoon he /she will say that....."

WHY DON'T THE MEDIA JUST GO ALONG, WATCH THE SPEECH AND REPORT WHAT WAS SAID AFTER IT WAS SPOKEN

I really detest the cosy collusion between the media and the politicians or big business interests, who send out stuff to the media in advance and then embargo it until a certain time of day. Particularly with the Government (of all political shades) isn't someone breaking the Official Secrets Act by releasing stuff to the media before it is in the public domain?

1) you are a politician and I have some quotes from years ago which are slightly different from what you said yesterday, and so I will bully you.

3) some other duff radio play about Jerome and Jemima
4) men are crap, especially middle class ones who share the housework... why don't t they do more of it?
5) Muslim women are really quite nice and the veil is a statement of freedom and emancipation

P....s me off too.

News generators, like politicians, sports teams and loads of others want their announcements to be reported accurately. So they place the news item with the reporters early with an embargo to such and such a time on a given date. In the past this worked well but 24hr news feeds and the need to fill schedules even when not supplying continuous news has led the reporting services to jump the embargo with their 'Expected to...' lines in order to get ahead of the competition.

Meanwhile if you are a continuous news consumer you get it all every few minutes until you despair and switch off. Which what I do regularly even on a 'big news' day 20 minutes of watching gives you all you need to know.

"From what we can see at the moment this topic is still very much a developing situation. All we know so far is that a number of persons are involved, and that these persons could quite literally be quoted at some point either today or perhaps tomorrow or next week. We quite simply do not know when this might or indeed might not happen. Now Hilary with some sport."

This is a slightly different issue, but last night I was listening to the midnight news on Radio 4. There was an item about the possible privatisation of the helicopter rescue services, currently operated in part by the RAF "for whom Prince WIlliam is a pilot. It's thought that any privatisation will not affect Prince William, as he'll have completed his training by the time it comes into effect. Prince William this and Prince William that, yada yada yada."
I mean, I'm really not that interested - actually, that's not true - I couldn't give a f**k how it affects Prince bloody William. I'm more bothered by the fact that it's being privatised at all, and when I eventually need cutting out of a lorry and helicoptering to a hospital, it's going to be a roomfull of bean counters who decide whether it's cost effective to send a chopper out or not.
