I haven't got a preference, but I have heard a lot about the golfer Lee 1010 Westwood. "Ho ho ho hole in one".

My vote goes to Amy Williams. She was really the only shining beacon for us at the Winter Games. Lee Westwood was rather inspiring at the Ryder Cup so that would be my second choice.

I'd vote for her. She seems genuinely nice and down to earth, and dedicated to her sport. Haye and Cav get a bit annoying and dont always deliver what they brag. Ennis is another who seems dedicated with the British reserve we should all aspire to.

Williams has been on a few progams like The Gadget Show.

It would always be nice to see Cav winning, but he won more stages at the TDF in 2009 and won Milan-San-Remo that year. (His best result ever IMO)

2010 he did well but not nearly as well.

It's a lacklustre list, but for Lee Westwood to become world number 1 at golf (one of the worls's most popular sports) knocks the others into a cocked hat.

And he has a personality

Tony Mckoy also deserves it, but won't win. The others are either the best at ludicrously minority sports (Phil "The Power" Taylor in darts/ Tom Daley in diving} or average performers in higher profile sports who happen to be British (David Haye / Jessica Ennis).

Having said that I think Ennis will win as the BBC has the rights to athletics and plently of footage - and she's good looking, which will sadly enough sway the armchair viewer.

Lee Westwood is only really found on Sky

I know we all like a game of darts in the pub, but to consider darts as a sporting event I just don't get it. Phil Taylor may be a great dart player, but compared to the other Athletes who were nominated I find it a bit of a joke. You might as well have Shove Ha'penny in there!

I'd have no problem with Phil Taylor winning it. I know most of us on here like a cycle at the weekend but what I do bears no resemblance to what Cav does, sadly for me. A snooker player's won in the past and darts is also a skills sport requiring mental toughness and the ability to perform under pressure. For anyone to dominate for so so long is an outstanding achievement.

I was backing Cav.

This competition is usually a bit of a BBC love-in and I don't like the program itself much. I'm amazed Andy Murray wasn't there again this year. I've no problem with him but he made the top ten last year and didn't acheive anything like the level of success someone like Chrissie Wellington enjoyed last year. Total domination at the ironnman distance. Don't get me started on the England rugby team winning the team prize for coming second in the word cup in 2007 ahead of the British cycling team who cleaned up at the worlds. That prize is chosen by "selected media representatives" as well as the ten finalists and there's obvious biad towards certain sports. On balance if the competition was made up of ten of the best people from extreme minority endurance sports no one would tune in
