I felt a bit sorry for the bison calf though...

I shall be watching the programme on the iplayer at some point and remembering back to going down to work in the Antarctic, sailing from Tasmania through the Southern Ocean and being called up on deck one day to watch a pod of orcas racing the ship, really just playing alongside. Very impressive and they're way more cute than leopard seals which look like big snakes while Weddell seals are actually oean-going labradors

Stunning. The surfing penguins had me laughing out loud..and the synchronised killer whales were truly awe-inspiring. Have to admit, when I saw that young bison go down my first thought was that the older one had deliberately used him as a decoy...either that or he never did like that Kevin...

The Orca's behaviour - never seen that on telly ever - big one up for the Beeb. Very clever animals.

Very clever indeed !

Once they've learned how to tackle a specific prey, they then teach each other. Nothing is safe from them; some pods specialise in hunting sharks. Even the Great White isn't safe (they run a mile); the Orca really is a true apex predator.

Just watched this in full HD on my plasma and surround sound system.

There's a lot of good stuff but If I had to pick something it would be the river system that dissapeared into a mile long crevass

I'm so glad it wasn't just me.

I loved it all

The suffering (yet ultimately rewarded) beaten up Polar bear, the Orca's "playing" with their food and showing off their wonderful formation flying skills, the breathtaking shots of the owl skimming the snow, the slow motion footage of penguins leaping from the ocean, the camera gliding over the gathering wolves and diving below the surface of the ice....and that crystal cave...all of it... almost every single frame created as a stunning visual feast.

No wonder it took 5 years to film.

This is what I want to see my licence fee invested in, this stuff...not just endlessly circular soaps.

I'm sure most sensible people argee that we want more but the BBC are skint.

Soaps and Celeb programmes are cheap as chips to make and they can churn out multiple episodes a week of that carp which are watched by millions of zombies.

Does anyone know how much the Frozen Planet cost to make for each minute of output, compaired to something like Strictly Come Dancing or Eastenders?

I turned over and watched a programme about crafts on Channel 5with Kirsty Allsop which was fascinating. There is only so may programmes with polar bears, lumps of ice and penguins one can watch before it gets tedious in the extreme.

It's being repeated on the 30th on BBC1/BBC1 HD as well.

Thanks, I'm quite excited. David Attenborough's programmes were one of the major factors in my choice to get a HD TV.

I watched the preview clips, and they were stunning enough, esp the teamwork orcas. Going to watch the whole thing when I get the chance.

Frozen Planet was amazing - that first seal must have had really awful breath to put the whales off like that.
