Think that was the whole point and a good move by Obama. He knew that a lot of people would tune in and he'd get the message he wanted out there. Don't think his advisors etc would have liked him to do anything risky.
Seemed like a nice down to earth bloke.

He was my states senator in Washington before he was President, and he was always very friendly and down-to -earth. I saw him speak as senator a couple of times, and he was able to relate really well to a lot of varied constituents.
