Becoming a cycle commuter

As of Friday, I will be starting a new job. I shall be cycling to work and back, which means I can finally join the ranks of the hardy cycle commuters.

Just over 5 miles, although on a nice day I can see myself extending that a bit.

I think I better give it a few weeks before turning up to work wearing lycra. Give people a chance to get to know me better first.

Good for you. Plenty of folk would drive that and arrive on a still cold engine, and that's what causes the pollution. You'll be having fun, keeping fit, and not polluting. Its win-win.

And de-stressed. I've cycled to interviews before, and it's amazing how calm I am compared to if I've taken the bus or car there.

Five miles is a bit short IMO. 10 each way is just about ideal and coincidentally just what I do.

Don't worry about the Lycra, JMTFU! Are there any showers/changing facilities? On second thoughts, what am I saying? Forget about Lycra, it is a short commute, just wear whatever is convenient.

I don't have a problem with lycra, I am conscious though of how it seems to non-cyclists. I will wear it after a while, once they know I'm a cyclist.

Wrong thing to do. Go lycra first off, get it out of the way. Otherwise they'll be used to you wearing baggies or what ever and when you do go in lycra, that's when they will notice.
