Beef cheeks anyone ?

I have never had them but today I was talking to a guy who does them regularly.
He said they are not cheap and he buys 6 as a time @ £50.00 which, to me seems a lot.
He batch cooks and gets 8 meals out of them.
Anyone else have them ?

I've had 'em in (posh-ish) restaurants, usually sold as ox-cheeks, and they are delicious. Never bought them as a meat

I read that they used to be viewed as a cheap cut but that has changed a bit.

£12.50 a kg at my local village butchers shop (they also have there own slaughter house out the back) so not that expensive by today's standards. Best to cook in a slow cooker for several hours, then it will be delicious!

That's exactly it. In early 2000s I used to buy pork cheeks in the mainstream supermarkets, and they were a lot cheaper than the equivalent weight of mince/stewing beef etc. But IIRC Jamie Oliver did a recipe using them, then they became popular and obviously tripled in price.

A little bit like tongue, they have a coarser texture and we used to slow cook them rather than quick fry.

Oh but to keep on topic, I've never seen beef cheeks in a restaurant or for sale in a shop
