The first Beefheart record I heard was played by John Peel, my dad was working in London at the time so I packed him off to Rough Trade records to buy the LP it came from, 'Safe as Milk'.

The song was 'Sure 'nuff and Yes, I do' and this is a great clip of it, filmed in Cannes in 1969 ... RIP Captain

He'd been poorly for years and I'm surprised he hung on as long as he did. One of my most treasured DVDs is John Peel's documentary on him, The Artist Formerly Known As Captain Beefheart. Well I know what I'll be listening to this week-end! He was a bloody good painter too. RIP Don.

I bought Troutmask Replica but was very disapponted with it on first hearing and never really gave it a chance with the advent of punk.

Must go back and give it another listen.
