Beijing Commuting & Bike Purchasing

Does anyone have experience of commuting or cycling within the city & suburbs I may have a consultancy contract arising in the future re Beijing University- I’ve been advised that the Central Business District around the embassies could be a suitable base.
Lastly I’m assuming there must be options to purchase either new or second hand bikes within the city ? Any recommendations most welcome.

Is your contract potentially at the main Beijing University site? If it is, the advice to stay in Chaoyang (where the embassies are) is a poor one. University is NW Beijing and commuting there from Chaoyang is time consuming. Also Chaoyang is one of the most expensive rental areas in Beijing

If it was me I'd stay somewhere in NW Beijing outside the 4th ring road
