Second week of September I'm off for a little jaunt across Belgium and Netherlands - arriving in Arnhem in time for Airborne Forces Day. Does anyone have any experience/knowledge of the likely weather conditions at this time of year?

I'm expecting temps of around 15c and SW winds, probably wet - does this sound about right?

It's a bit more complicated than that...
The climate in that part of the world is pretty similar to that in the South-east of England. So on that basis the weather could be anything from warm sunshine to freezing rain.

Not yet freezing rain. The Ardennes may be a bit colder, however. See: http://www.knmi.nl/index_en.html for Holland. The average max temp for the first ten days of September in Holland is 19.1, average min temp 11. It should be perfectly fine, unless you have bad luck.....

Average maximum in Brighton in September is 19C, too. But in the South-East of England the temperature when I left the house this morning was 10C, and it was windy. If it had been raining too the perceived weather conditions would have been freezing cold and rainy. Just a reminder - although it feels like late September (blackberries are ripe here), it is still August!

I am just back from cycling from Antwerp, messing about North Brabant, then onto Eindhoven, the weather over the past 9 days was terrible. Rain, wind, then more rain and wind, many night thunderstorms too. On the bright side the temp, day and night, was fine.

Bad timing! The last couple of weeks have been the most awful we've had in the time I've lived here.

I can believe it. I hope my post did not put Chrisz off his trip! On the plus side, the people I met were the most hospitable, friendly, helpful people, that I have ever met whilst cycling. All they have to do is work on the weather and the food and it would be my perect cycling destination.

LOL. NOTHING can put me off - short of major broken bones! It's a charity ride (H4H) to Arnhem for Airborne Forces Day.

The weather sounds like the same thing we've been having here - just a little warmer

We're going from Belgium to Arnhem - I spent several months there years ago and loved it! Itching to get there and possibly catch up with a few old friends, drink a couple of beers and scoff vienna shnitzel, pom frites et mayo
