We don't have to worry about reducing the weight of the bike for the simple reason that the saving from using a titanium grub screw or whatnot is vanishingly small when expressed as a percentage of the all up weight.

Come to think of it, the same applies to changes in our own weight. Did someone mention pies?

You heavier cyclists get the pleasure of ordering more maintenance stuff from Wiggle too. Spokes, chains, wheels, anything weight bearing really.

I'm not sure if it holds for upright bikes, but I'm convinced that my extra weight adds to my descending speeds on recumbent trikes. While being heavier means being bigger the area is to the square of the size of the rider while the weight is to the cube. Being better streamlined we tend to be able to outrun uprights every time on descents anyway, but my observations vis a vis other recumbent trikes seems to hold this out.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
It must be awful to be skinny and not pack any horsepower.
