When riding my trusty steed a couple of months ago, I moved off in a higher gear than usual and heard a graunching noise from the back wheel, which started rubbing against the forks.
I discovered that the rear axle had bent at the drive end and, presumably as a consequence, the dropout on that side was also bent.
The wheel itself is OK, nothing that a new axle wouldn't sort out, but I'm a bit worried about the dropout, having heard that straightening out a bent one can lead to weakness and in due course fatigue failure.
I'm riding a new bike now, but I'd like to fix the old one to use as a runabout.
Any tips or advice ? Thanks.
