just wondering if anyone has actually put a chain ring or pedal through a car door?

seeing as thats the front part of the bike.

just curious is all

Not me, and I'm not sure I know anyone who has.

I do know someone once berated a recumbent rider at a roadshow, because "that chain wheel on the front would be dangerous if you hit a pedestrian, you should be banned from the road." My friend said that he tried very hard not to hit pedestrians on a day to day basis, and what about being hit by a car, isn't that dangerous? No, said the bloke, you just roll off if you're hit by a car.

We bit our tongues and refrained from suggesting he go and put this theory to the test on the ring road....

Yeah, we could drive cars at them, that way, they might only roll off...

We never got as far as what happened if you were hit by a bus. Presumably you'd lie flat on the ground and it would pass over you with an inch to spare.

Years ago when riding on a shared path just before arriving home, a chav coming towards me placed himself directly in front of me, I assume to impress his girlfriend next to him. Anyway, he soon moved when he realised he would get chainsawed by my 65 tooth chainring, if he didn't.
Although I don't think he realised it had 65 teeth - probably couldn't count up that far.

Not my fault though. In Fareham at a junction, as I pulled off a numpty performed a left hook, catching pedal and chainring on rear wing..... Lovely big scratch.

I've got a chainring guard on the front of mine now. This is not to protect car doors (I haven't had any close encounters yet) but to protect the chain teeth if it rolls off on its own into a wall somewhere (as it's prone to do).

I ride a long-wheelbase Linear, so the front wheel is still the first thing to go in a frontal impact. Though if I hit a dog side-on, I reckon that most of the damage to it's ribcage would come from the headtube. I have narrowly avoided putting this theory to the test several times.

no i haven't but my local bike club told me i was not welcome as they considered the chain-rig dangerous "that could do a lot of damage in a crash" I think sliding down the road on one of them pole up your @rse backward df (god i am in so much pain and am an elitist b@sterd to say ayup or how doing when greeted bye a not Worthy bent rider) and breath. when out on my Dayle ride greeted by peds joggers horse riders (even while the horse is freaking out) but df one in ten will acknowledge me
