Engineering works on the trains from Liverpool Street to Colchester mean a difficult journey for those who want to get the train up. It also means that my husband James won't be cycling all the way to London, he'll come as far as Maldon and then ride home so that he can in due course pick me up from London by car.

At the moment it looks as if my friend Mark, fboab and her daughter from YACF, and possibly Ham from YACF may come for the ride from Colchester to London. And Martin, of course!

I am now planning to start from the Colchester Personnel Recovery Centre at 9am (instead of the previously-planned 10) so this is an hour earlier.

OK, I have been told officially by the army that I can visit the PRC on my way through but it's likely this will be finished by 9:30am, at which point I will appear at the Corporal Budd VC Gymnasium car park, ready to head to London. So start time is now 9:30am this Sunday.

Martin, this gives you half an hour more in bed or whatever you want to do!

we're cutting rugs at a couple of parties in Kent this weekend (I know...) but if I get a text with a finish time I'll do my best to get up to Trafalgar Square

Finished at a couple of minutes to six yesterday evening. 701 miles in total. Thanks so much to everyone who supported me and particularly to the cyclists who accompanied me yesterday which was by far the hardest day (and with the worst traffic!). Special mention to Martint, User10571, Saoirse30, Wowbagger and more... Oh, and to Mice for bringing me some food at Trafalgar Square!

Sorry I couldn't make it to ride into London with you... last day of the footy season is my excuse.

Can I come along for the whole thing next time?? Ham and cheese for breakfast is one of my favourite German traditions! Beats Alpen easily!!!

Isn't that a bit hilly? A friend suggested I did Salzburg to London (she likes Salzburg) but I think that might be a bit hilly too. Mind you, I think there might be a river to follow most of the way from München (thus flat...)

I think Salzburg would be way too hilly. From what I remember of my times in Southern Germany, most of the roads seemed to stick to the bottom of the valleys. A quick run across to the Rhine valley, follow that down to Duisberg and across into Holland. Not that I'm suggesting this is ever going to become real!!!
