It came to Leicester, Maxine Peake I believe. Despite it being at the theatre I go to all the time, visit the website regularly and get monthly e-mails from, I managed not to notice. Bum. I hope it comes near here again on the second time round.

I first heard it, on Radio 4, when it was first broadcast

Maxine Peake did this as a radio play back in 2012. Was good.

Link here, but it looks like it's no longer available. +Bum

Yes is was by Maxine Peake, based on the radio play
There was a man there who had ridden with Beryl, remembered meeting at Sheffield Uni at 8 AM for rides, and remembered her going up (and down) Snake Pass on a fixie

Briefly broke the "no photography in the auditorium rule" before the performance started.

It was a good play. Cycling is less of a challenge on stage than running; each cast member had a bike in a turbo, that moved on stage and projected as suitable backdrop as they pedalled along.

You kind of know it's going to end sadly, even if you don't know her story, as they start with her as a little girl, and she was born in 1937. And you probably don't know her story - I didn't. The play starts with the cast members - playing themselves - admitting they had never heard of her until the checked wikipedia before the audition.

Very pleasant evening. Was glad I cycled there, it felt very appropriate to unlock my bike at the end.
