If I could spend anything between £500-1000, what would be the best bang-for-buck bike? I'd be just as happy with a £500 bargain as I would a higher spec bike with less value for money.

I'm not desperate to get carbon nor ultegra, bang for buck is more important. Stupidly I didn't jump on the Planet X Carbon ultegra at £799 and now it has gone up in price I'm wondering if there are any fantastic deals out there.

Probably plump for a Giant defy 2 myself. Good frame, good spec, bit leftover for extra's...but shop around...good time of year to be buying...still lots of leftover 2014 bikes to be had at massive discounts...

2014 Cube Peloton Race.

10 speed Shimano 105 (full groupset) not this front & rear derailleur & mix match of other bits some brands do.

Mavic Aksium S wheelset.

Around £680 for a bike with RRP of £999.

Already considered but at 5'10" and a 31 inside leg I need a medium, non left. I tried an m/l at lbs and it felt too big even with a 90mm stem

I am same measurements pretty much. I had to get the m/L defy as on the m the seat post was right up and I could still stand flat footed. The m/L feels big at 1st because of the way you sit relitavely upright on a defy. But once you get used to it it feels natural. Although I had to lower the stem with the spacers as the posture difference between it and my nose down , daily ridden steel was ridiculous.

I'll take a look given that not many bikes under £1000 come wit Aksium S's

that looks good in white but I'm unsure where this SRAM stands against Shimano range. a shame about the short interest free period as wiggle offer 20 months on some bikes

Rose pro sl 2000, full 11 speed 105, light, pretty good wheels, choice of colours £765.
worth a look but I've never even considered them before

Rival is between 105 and Ultegra. Works in a different way with one lever to change up and down 'double tap' system

I much prefer to Shimano as the hood shape suits my hands so much better

If buying on the never never make sure it is thoroughly insured unless you can pay off a bike you no longer possess should the worst happen. Might want accident damage insurance too!

You can't look at Rose bikes in the UK unless you know someone who has one (you've missed the London bike show)
