Hi all,

I am considering selling my touring bike and buying road bike instead. My budget around 400-500 GBP. What wuld be the best bike around this budget? Could be second hand too. I would like to be able to install a 28mm wheels on it. One of the models I have my eye on is Cube Axial, but interested to hear your opinions too.

IMHO the difference between a £300 and £500 isn't worth the £200. It gets interesting/value around £800-£1K

Weight ain't everything. Most people wouldn't notice a kilo either way, especially on a bike set up with mudguards, rack etc.

Och, I know. I don't even know what my bikes weigh. I do know I can achieve several hundred quid's worth of weight saving by taking a dump before riding.

The Op will Likely have to make some changes to bars, saddle etc which may well send it over the budget and weight

Personally I think a kilo or so weight difference makes no difference to the general cyclist. I could loose half a stone in body weight and it would make more difference than riding carbon over steel for example

That's 100gm under - different inner tubes or tyres could push it over 10kg easily.
Not really worth becoming a weight weenie at that price range.
