Spent a few days recently along the Thames.

Amazed how pretty it all is when you get away from stuff.

Anyway I was flavour of the week for the local mosquitoes. I have reacted badly. I know I won't die, but a bit of relief for the discomfort would be appreciated.

Used anti histamine cream and tablets, just not making the grade. I know now that I should have taken the noxious anti flying pest stuff that was standard issue overseas.

So spare that, just suggestions for relieving my discomfort

Don't know that the overseas stuff would have done you much good, that's to guard against Malaria and you have to take it weeks in advance. Just be glad you don't have Malaria like I do, once you've got it it's with you for life.
What you're suffering from is the skin's reaction to the bites, should be much better tomorrow.
You could always try some good old Calomine lotion, better still if you can find a nurse Gladys Emmanuel to apply it for you.

Keep an eye on the bites, especially if the inflamed area starts to spread rapidly, Cellulitis can get serious very quickly & requires prompt treatment. Everyone loves coming on river walks with me as I attract bity insects, nobody else gets eaten & whatever repellent i use something still wants to bite.

Best deterrent for biting insects is to stand next to my wife - they just LOVE her

other than that the highest strength spray Jungle Formula spray

If the little buggers still get you then the creams are ok - but a slice of lemon or lime also works wonders and is easily available in bars
and while you are there you can have a beer

Another vote for DEET, pre-bite. In the bad old days, the DEET levels in Jungle Formula where sufficiently robust that a finger used to anoint your skin was sufficient to emboss a fingerprint on a plastic-bodied camera. Awesome stuff.......and more importantly, the mozzies didn't target you.

This stuff works once you have been bitten
.
Another vote for Deet before you venture out.

Sympathy from me. I get bad reaction from bites, the usual swelling but sometimes blisters and even vicarious patches elsewhere. I take a daily antihistamine like cetirizine and when I get bitten I use something stronger like fexofenadine. Anthisan cream helps immediately after being bit and calamine can be soothing. I suggest talking to a pharmacist.
