Best for top end speed out of..........

Going from a road converted hardtail mountain bike, I've narrowed down my search to 2 x hybrids... or maybe persuaded to look at cyclocross if I can get to try out riding with drop bars.

I am looking for best top end speed out of these two... and my main concern is having hydraulic brakes after loving them so much on my hardtail.

Jamis Allegro Elite 2015 or Fuji Absolute 1.1 Disc 2015

or for Cyclocross I may be looking at similar to the Pinnacle Arkose 2 or 3 maybe.

Any advise is appreciated.

The Pinnacle Arkose 3 will be fastest on a 50 x 11 gear combination, if you can get the most out of that. As they are all from Evans, find somewhere that will let you try them all and see what you like. The CX bikes will feel quite different to the hybrids.

Speed is down to you!

Although the cross bike will give you a lower riding position, and therefore less wind resistance, which will make a lot of difference at speed. And the frame shape looks a little more aggressive too.

And traffic, lights, other inconveniences like pedestrians ;) In London for example, I can't imagine the type of bike makes much difference in rush hour traffic (single speed makes things less complicated though)

Thanks, understand speed essentially is down to the rider, so I should have asked more along the lines of if the same rider was on each bike which is the better hybrid for speed....

As it happens I am leaning more towards cyclocross after having a brief ride today, and am almost ready to buy a Cannondale CAADX SRAM Rival 22 disc 2015 I think I've made my mind up, a little more than I budgeted for but it has hydraulic brakes and I liked my last cannondale although that was a hardtail mountain bike!

Response was more along the lines of "if you want more speed, then invest in a good training regime." The difference in speeds you would get between the bikes you linked to would be at best marginal, and at worst, statistically insignificant. Changing from a nobbly FS mountain bike to a road bike would be far more noticeable.

Therefore choose the bike that fits you better (try it out), is better speced, or you like the look of more. Preferably the first on this list.

Well, it's down to you how much energy you provide, but how efficiently that energy is converted to motion is down to the bike. A road bike is more efficient than a mountain bike.

Anyone know where I can find a set of them...they don't need to be carbon.

On a serious note, I always assume cross bikes to be slower...no idea why

Don't rely on advice from here, everyone has their favourites, but make sure you try the bikes first. I'd narrowed my choice to 2 bikes when buying my first hybrid and I found the prettier one had a strange ride, it somehow felt light at the front. And hydraulic discs are the biz, wouldn't be without them now. (That is not advice, merely an opinion that you would be foolish to ignore!)

Damn was hoping you'd like the arkose 3, been looking at it thinking it looks ideal for the price :smile:

I ride on one most days, with slick tyres, and it certainly isn't slow ;)

Reading between the lines because people rarely give enough information to offer useful advice I would say the OP wants to go fast over rough ground, the disc brake issue is a sidebar. Now we get to how rough? If we are talking about a technical section of an MTB race for instance you are not going to do this fast but there are specialised bikes for this as there are for going fast on a track or a smooth tarmac time trial.
Gravel racing is gaining popularity and this is where I would look for going fast over, - say an old railway track is this the 'rough'?

Hydraulic brakes are available on a whole range of bikes and as such I consider this a side issue to getting a bike to suit the intended purpose.
