On the Sunday London Ride, we went past Joseph Bazalgette's statue on The Embankment and rode along the Greenway, under which his sewer runs. Later ianrauk and I went over Putney bridge, which wikipedia tells me was designed by him too.

Bazalgette did not invent the sewer. The Romans had them and the Paris sewer is hundreds of years older - and was modernised before London.
