Hi all,

Given it's the time of year for people to be clearing out their 2015 stock, whats the current best buy for £500 or less?

Road bike,
reasonably comfortable,
will be used for the odd 10 mile each way commute and saturday morning leisure rides of a few hours or more.

Any suggestions?

Tredz have a Giant Defy 2 with a discount code for £470 ish here

Or am I missing something else somewhere else? Thanks for your help!!

Thanks, I may try. The thing is, when confronted with shiny things which I can see and touch I will end up spending *much* more than I should this close to Christmas!!

That is a thing of beauty.

Nothing to stop you nipping into CRC on Boucher Road for a nebby, just leave the wallet at home!

Not a fan of Chain Reaction.. That said if you go for their brand Vitus you "might" get something worth your money..

The other thing is go to your local bike shop and see what they offer... Also tell them you have £400 right there to spend... You will see the tag price go down in more then one case.

And hello from Belfast..!

I guess they're good if they've got something which suits on special. I have been to a few LBS, they've all left me deflated if I'm honest. Literally no time for anyone not willing to spend £1000+. To be fair to Halfords in Craigavon, they may not be entirely clued up but at least they were friendly and attempting to meet my requirements.

A few bike shops have been and gone in Portadown and surrounding areas, it's easy to see why. They can't/won't compete on price, didn't want to listen, weren't particularly friendly or informative either.

Hi from Co Armagh ;)

Hi from Co Armagh ;)
I noticed that a lot around here.. (note I am new in town) sell 2 bikes at 500 and you get the same profit that 1 for 1000..

have a few friends in Lisburn and Moira that I ride with ..

Maybe I see you on the route one of this days..!

I'm a big Defy fan, but this jus blew me away...

A few pence over your budget, but well worth a test ride if you can. One of those machine that just feels right for no discernable reason, somehow more than the sum of its parts.

Thank you for that, I think that 15 years ago I'd have been all over it but now I think the Defy is a bit more relaxed and will suit my ageing carcass a bit better

What if Chain Reaction is your local bike shop? I'm about 800 yards from their Doagh Warehouse and have found them on the vast majority of times very good. Good for the wee things, haven't bought a bike from them yet.

I must though give praise where it's due for McConvey Cycles. I was at the Ciclovia event yesterday and McConveys had a mechanic at the event. The guy spent a good 15 minutes tinkering with my bike, getting my gears and brakes sorted out in the process all for free!
