Yebbut, Chips with gravy, mushy peas and curry sauce really IS a northern thing, happy to grant you that. When I was a girl in Pompey you didn't see mushy peas in the chippy. Also chippies down south have never much gone in for selling suet puddings - pied yes, savs, yes. Suet pud is domestically universal, though varied in form. Yorkshire pud - I'd grant you that - we always had that with beef and openly acknowledged the provenance!
Could this discussion all be down to chippy northerners?

Best suet puds I've ever had were served at the Westleton Crown in Suffolk.

Unfortunately, the head chef changed a year or so ago and they are off the menu. Plus portion sizes generally have slipped down to the "small amount of food on very big plate - I saw you coming" market so we stopped going.

Oh that's a shame, Mr G and I stayed there a couple of times last decade and it was wonderful then as you say.

I'm sure it's still a nice place to stay but food-wise, for Mrs R and myself, there's a lot of competition in its market sector when it comes to driving 30 miles for a meal. It no longer has anything unique to draw us me there. The suet puds weren't pushed as a unique selling point by the hotel at all but it was a very well known one locally just by word of mouth. For us and our friends it could sway a venue choice if one of the group was a fan because the rest of the menu was extensive, very good quality and good value.

The suet puds were quite extraordinary. Fiiled with slow cooked meat and mushrooms in an intense reduced gravy then served with a generous amount of even more reduced red wine gravy/sauce that I would dearly liked to have known the recipe for.

if the pud is a suvvern dish then why is is such a task to find one . and a chippy that does gravy , mushy peas, or even " chip shop curry " is a difficulty to find in the "cultured" south .

You'll get your fix come April 25, if you can wait that long. I suspect the puds will be Hollands though, not that delicious home made monster
