Grand Drive. Discovered them be accident: I'd intended to buy something from Giant Sand and managed to pull the wrong CD off the shelf. I think they finally gave up after making 5 or 6 albums.

named after a road in Raynes Park where they lived and not far from me. loved the brothers Wilson and saw them many many times Julian is a keen cyclist and has done the etape several times, he used to hang out at Pearsons in sutton a lot. their track, "track 40" is about cycling and named after a road sign near Sutton.

they were the best band in britain until they split and then Guillemots took over that title

Defying the 20 year rule by a decade, I'm chucking in Fields of the Nephilim.

Also, who cares if you'd recognise Muse in the street?! They are vastly overrated.

Wow.
I love the Annie Lennox version, I didnt even know it was a cover!
The Lennox version is more haunting, but now I have heard this I see that it takes so much influence from the much rockier original.

According to wiki they opened for Eurythmics on their tour. Granted they waited about 8 years and Dave Stewart did help them get a bit of a break but he did then nick the track.
It is so odd that great artists go unnoticed while rubbish makes it to the charts.
I keep playing the album on youtube. It is of its age but really stands up well.

I remember going to see them at Cheltenham Town Hall years ago, the Saturday girl in my mum and dad's shop at the time was a big fan and she must have persuaded me to go along. I can't really remember much about the music but visually it was really good, all those long coats, tons of dry ice and back lighting, it looked uber cool.
Also, as I was browsing Amazon last week, I saw one of those 5 cd box set for about fifteen quid things by them, so I bought it.

Bargain. Got a link? If it's stuff by them I've not already got I will be getting involved.

Happy listening!!

Edited to add that they count on a technicality as they reformed in 1998!

Joy Division! They didn't exactly have mega-success, although New Order subsequently did, but Joy Division was definitely underrated at the time (my own opinion, of course).
Actually, I take this back, because Joy Division split up in 1980, which is more than 20 years ago. I wish time didn't creep up on us like that!
