What do you think was the best year for music? For me, I reckon it was 1979. All four years from 1977 to 1980 were pretty good as I recall. Recently on YouTube I've been listening to

XTC - Making plans for Nigel
M - Pop Musik
Madness - Night Boat to Cairo
Joy Division - Transmission, Shadowplay, Control
The Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits

Just did a little google search and found hits like YMCA by The Village People (camp but fun) and Boogie Wonderland by Earth Wind and Fire were also released in 1979.

To be honest I can't remember much punk as I was only 11 or 12 in 1979 and it wasn't played on the tv or radio much, but there was new wave, disco, two tone and lots of cheesy pop.

1966 was pretty good. Revolver and Blonde On Blonde were released, arguably The Beatles' and Bob Dylan's best albums.

Without a shadow of a doubt, it was 1973, just because of this:

I feel I that I have really missed out by not being born until several years after this little gem had disappeared into obscurity.

1991:

Gun's n Roses - Use your illusion 1&2
Metallica - Black Album
Madonna - Justify my love
REM - Out of Time
U2 - Achtung Baby
Nirvana - Nevermind
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magic
Massive Attack - Blue Lines
A Tribe Called Quest - Forgotten the album name
Pearl Jam - Ten
Roxette - Joyride
Crowded House - Woodface
Prince - Diamonds and Pearls
Enigma - MCMXCDIIIVCXCD

Those are from top of my head......Not sure why 1991 was so good, but i picked up my first guitar for christmas
