What is the point?

Apparently Sam Fender has just broken the record for longest No1.

I like the song but had no idea it was No1 for so long.

The charts have zero relevance anymore since people no longer buy physical copies. And who even listens to the Sunday chart show these days.

Back in the days of Wet Wet Wet and Brian Adams this stuff was all over the main news reports.

No idea, but vintage chart shows are usually popular, aren't they?

The charts are compiled from a range of data, not just physical sales, but downloads and streams as well.
In any case, physical sales, in the form of vinyl and cassettes, have been increasing in recent years.

I'm 65 now, it's more than 50 years since I listened to the chart show. Does it still exist?

Takes me back, used to try and record the top 20, on a basic cassette tape recorder, with microphone. Trying to pause between the songs to cut out the talking.
