Why did they need an ambulance? Couldn't they have just got a paramedic on each end of the pole and sedan chaired him to hospital?

Nasty. A very lucky chap.

My uncle did. He was riding behing a scaffold wagon when one of the poles came loose and smashed into his head, knocking him off and killing him. 1981 I think.

Anyway, Jason Ripley (above) is lucky to be alive thats for sure.

I veer away from scaffold trucks at the earliest opportunity; they never look secure. I've known a few scaffolders in my time and they've been nuts tbh. For safety's sake, I tar them all with the same brush.
