So yesterday I was cycling home at about half seven, a bit later than I usually commute and very quiet on the roads. For those of you that know the area I'd just turned left onto Algernon Road from Marsala Road when a motorbike started to overtake me, I just had time to think that it was a bit close when I saw the hand of the passenger reach towards me. He grabbed my arm and yanked, sending me crashing to the ground. I'm ok - a bit of road rash, a swollen knee and lots of bruising (plus my nicest tights and my new gloves are both ripped and my bike is a bit banged about). Luckily there was nothing behind me though. I reported it to the police so don't want to say much more, but thought I'd just warn people who cycle through that area - its probably just idiots thinking they're funny but you never know, they might do it all the time!

How horrible and scary for you! Glad to hear you aren't too damaged. Hope the police can identify them.

Crikey! I use that back route to Ladywell quite often and so do a fair number of cyclists. Did you manage to get any identification details of the riders or the bike?

Sadly I got very little by way of identification details - neither me nor a witness managed to get the number plate. They wore helmets and it was dark and I only really caught a glimpse of them before I was on the ground - by the time I sorted myself out enough they were too far away for me to get anything useful. Police are quite hopeful there'll be some CCTV somewhere though so maybe all is not lost.

I used to live round there and use that road. On the whole it's a nice area, but there's still some real scum live there too. Doubt getting the plate would have made much difference - Stolen moped no doubt. Maybe even the same wasters that pinched my motorbike off my drive not too far away some years ago... who knows...

Hope you're ok anyway. And just tell yourself that Karma will come and get them in the end, somehow...

Well as a cyclist and motorcyclist I find that particularly sickening. Bad Karma will indeed come their way...

Don't suppose it was a well intentioned gesture - trying to give you a bit more speed - that went wrong ? (as it would). 'Cos thinking about it, a pillion would have to be mad to do this in case they got pulled off... but then there are some VERY stupid people in the world.

Mmm - I don't think so. They pulled me upwards - my front wheel lifted off the ground completely.

What tulips! I hope that you get over the shock and back on your bike quickly. Passengers of motor vehicles are lethal when they are up to 'mischief'. Having been on the receiving end of a shoving off, I have an idea of how you must be feeling.

How can people even remotely think this is acceptable?
Hope they get caught, glad you're ok.

Hope you're not too shaken up.

I go to work through Catford, Ladywell and Lewisham, and stories like yours are the reason I use the A21's bus lane rather than the "quieter" streets.
