Bib tights and padding!

I remember those days. I personally think that I was more comfortable in tight briefs than the tri suits we use these days. For me, the tri suits aren't as snug and supportive.

I agree regular bike wear is a pain. I haven't tried no-padding but I cannot imagine it would be comfortable.
Getting ready for a hike it takes me minutes; shorts, top, shoes and I'm off, but with the bike, it takes ages just to get on the bike.

In summer, that is exactly the same for me on the bike. Padded bib shorts, top, shoes, go. In winter, there may be arm warmers and/or leg warmers, and often shoe covers (which are what slow me down most)

As I have said before getting ready for a ride in winter is a workout in its self.
