1000 miles in a month, thats takes some doing,I doff my cap to you
Hi! Well, I am lucky in that I work a 12 hour shift pattern. Ok, 'lucky' isn't the word for working 12 hours, but the upside is that we get quite a lot of time off, so plenty of time for long runs. I have eased off a bit now, I pretty much try to do 25 miles on days off and 12.5 on working days. Nothing else was getting done, it was just cycling and more cycling!

I beat my PB today over my 25 mile course. 1:29:28...that's 16.3mph average and it was really windy. I decided that I have gone as far as I can with my heavy Trek 8.4, so I treated myself to my first road bike. It isn't anything overly special, it's a Giant Defy 3...and I am looking forward to 1:25, that will be my ultimate goal. I'm overwhelmed at my times really, 'cos it's a real challenge and a real buzz!
I don't seem to do anything anymore, I just do cycling...the house is filthy, the garden is a mess, but loving those thighs baby.

53 is not old. I am 4 years behind and still feel like I am in my 20s, or at least I do until I find a hill to ride up.
Welcome to the forums.

You will love your Defy. I have a Defy 2 (2011) and I love it to bits. You certainly don't hang about on your MTB do you? I can average 16.3 mph from my home to the Norfolk and Norwich hospital (to collect hubby) but its mostly downhill with only 90' of climbing. I can't average the same coming the other way.

While the sun is shining we are joining you in the mucky house and messy garden department. Housework won't kill you but I for one am not taking the chance while summer is here.

Hi! Is the Trek 8.4 classed as a MTB? I would say it is more of a hybrid? I have to work really hard to get near to my PB's now (as we all do). Sometimes, it just doesn't happen and I amble along at 14 or 15 mph averages, but every now and then the mind and the body get their acts together! I was pretty red when I got back today, let me tell you!

The words 'amble' and '14 or 15 mph averages' don't belong in a sentence together in my world  I think that you might be a bit fitter than you are letting on
We are big Queen fans in this household too.

Well, I don't know, but I tried my new bike today on my 24.6 mile route and smashed my PB by 3:15 secs and came in at 1:26:33 and 17mph average. It is so, so much easier than the old bike! A little less wind on another day and my ultimate dream of 1:25 will be there I think!

Good news about the Queen and Michael Jackson tracks isn't it? Better not derail the thread with Queen talk though!!
