Having returned to motorcycles after nearly 30 years gap, I found my leathers had, (cough), "shrunk" in the cupboard.
I must confess, the resulting "Tom-of-Finland" look didn't really do me any favours
Mine did that. Must be something inside wardrobes that does that.
However, on the plus side I now have a nice cordura jacket and some rather large cordura trousers.

If I am very short and he is not how will I see?
The rear seat is likely to be raised so the passenger can at least look over the drivers shoulder, if not you will have to settle for a sideways view.

I shouldn't worry unduly. If there's a need to brake hard, you're not going anywhere as there's a great big rider in the way who you'll slide into. This isn't an issue.

Something not recommended though is for the pillion to be carrying a big heavy rucksack, full of, say 2 sets of caving gear, 100m of rope and some caving ladders. Even on a modest bike a twist of the throttle can have you leaning back with your feet under the rider's armpits !

Duly noted I'll not do that then

I have ridden motorbikes since I was 12 years old.
Everything from mopeds up to the latest sportsbikes.
However, accepting a pillion ride has always filled me with dread, and something I always tried to avoid.
Mebbe I'm a control freak or summat.

I could write the same myself. Not the control freak bit I just disliked carry a very precious cargo.

I meant to accept a ride on the back of someone else's bike - scared the cr@p outta me!
I agree 100% with your statement though. The responsibility an safety of someone on the back weighed heavily. Any mishap may not be my fault, but that's little compensation if your passenger is hurt or worse.

You could sit like this, then you'll be able to see

It seems to happen to wetsuits as well.

I do 99% of my riding two up, both on a tourer and a sports bike. Mrs fs is a great pillion.
A girlfriend in my distant youth went on the back once, held on to me rather than the bike , tried to lean into corners before I wanted to and then sat up before I was ready. She didnt go on the back again.
General rule of thumb, hold onto the bike, not the rider, look at the back of his helmet until you are used to it and dont make any sudden moves. Oh and dont get on or off unto you are told to.
