...booooo!

It knocked 2mph off my normal average speed and I was absolutely spent when I got up the last hill.

I've not been commuting for long and it's the first time I've encountered a head wind like that - it was relentless.

I think I need a rest day tomorrow!

Get used to it pal,you have hurricanes to get used to yet.;)

Anything under 30mph you get used to. If its in gusts then thats more annoying, especially side winds. I dont bother riding in winds over 35mph here, and I've been riding a long time. Too much hassle, lol!

Strange how a tailwind doesnt seem to help as much as a headwind hinders you.Living near the coast i take care to have wind helping on the way home if riding for fun.(Got it spectacularilly wrong a few weeks ago :-) ) Commuting doesnt give that option 35mph gust helped me up one of the hills going to work.I could hardly breath riding down it on the way home, frightened to look behind or my glasses would have blown off!

Simple piece of advise. Don't fight the wind. When it's windy, just slow down, and spin. Don't worry about taking longer on a commute...it's not a race. If you try to go as fast as you can against a headwind, it will beat you to death, and you might save a minute or two.

i know it sucks, this wind. (if that makes sense) everyday and every trip its a headwind. grrrrrr

I am learning to despise headwinds. Was a time when I was philosophical about it - every headwind = a tailwind on the way back - but my favourite (shortest!) route invariably means tailwind on the downhill journey outwards and headwind on the uphill one coming home. One of the reasons I did away with a computer on my bike was that I didn't want to know how slowly I was going on the uphill+headwind sections of my rides!
