Big Garden Birdwatch

It's the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch this weekend - make a cuppa, put on your favourite music and spend an hour watching the birds in your garden. Or make up a thermos, put on your woollies and go to the park for an hour.

It might be skewed by the amount of snow still in my garden, but I'll have a go tomorrow.

With the now still lying we put food out for the birds,and have seen plenty of different varieties ,wife sits in the conservatory watching them and identifying them,so I'm sure she will take part!

our local red kite has been seen hovering looking for waifs & stray children !

and yes we will be doing our part too

Having a coffee this morning, I saw in 5 minutes -
5 Blackbirds
1 Robin
1 Wagtail
1 Fieldfare sat in my Crab Apple tree.

It's the largest number of each species seen in the garden (not flying over) at one time, to eliminate seeing the same blackbird, say, 5 times in the hour.

I was out on the bike yesterday (not in the garden) and saw a white egret (I notice they can be great or little but I don't know which one it was. However he didn't like me watching and circled quite a few times after I disturbed him before finally settling in a tree.

My favourite CD is shotgun sounds of the world, so I might give that bit a miss as it puts the birds off.
Actually we've got our usual suspects at the bird table so I'll try and remember.

I'll be at work all weekend, have been watching already though ... been feeding them too, clue a dozen wild pigeons rummaging on my front garden.
The little red robins are often bullied out of their share

It'll be a little egret. Handsome birds, aren't they?

Sparrowhawks are one of my favourite birds, though its appearence understandably sent a lot of birds packing after just 5 minutes! So the figures may have been a bit higher if it had not shown up.
