More than 50 years ago, used to be friendly with some farmer's boys. He learned to drive at a very young age, driving a mini van round the farm.

He passed his driving test on his 17th birthday!

Living in a rural part of France tractors are an everyday thing to be aware of.
Tractors, like cars, have gotten much bigger. Really more suited to the grain belt of the US.
Most dangerous time is when maize is being harvested for silage. This means the farmer hires a very expensive machine. this cuts, chops up and blows the results out of a large tube into a trailer. The farmers all get together and arrange a relay of tractors and trailers to ferry this back to the silage site.
Narrow lanes, large tractors and the need to get back for the next load is a dangerous mix.
When we hear one approaching we stop and get as far off the road as possible.
I try to remind myself that the farmers produce what we eat🤔.

Had a bit of a scare a few days ago. The route I use is mostly single country roads, but always enough room to squeeze past an on coming car.

This time, I was going quite fast and coming out of a bend, was a huge farming vehicle in front of me. It had stopped, but was covering the road from hedge to hedge.

I had to switch from "Tom Pidcock" mode to stationery, in the blink of an eye. Just managed to stop in time, pulling myself into the hedgerow.

I wonder why you would have been going fast out of the bend if your line of site was such that you had to brake hard to avoid the vehicle?

Indeed. The only people they slow down are the careful and competent drivers, who were, erm, already careful and competent before the devices were installed.

The idiots that cause the real problem carry on as before, only difference being they spend more time airborne.

I learned that lesson decades ago, but the thing round the bend was not a vehicle...

I encountered a huge horse just round the bend and nearly inserted my head up its rectum!

A tractor with a trailer flew up the main road outside my flat yesterday afternoon as I was leaving my flat. It was definitely doing over the 30mph speed limit which at that time would've been 20mph had the junior school just off the main road been open, but for the summer holidays. To be fair, the driver probably saw that no vehicles were coming down the narrow road so he 'went for it', hoping to get up there before a vehicle approached on the right.

What do YOU suggest, when SUV's, 4x4's vans & trucks can just keep going without slowing for them?
Especially when. these idiots speed up to the rear of smaller cars, that have to slow for them
