On Friday night the kid went to a club in Brixton. Somebody stole her bag. She went to the bar, told the barman, who called the police. While she was doing that two plain clothes officers had spotted two boys going through a bag in the street, and nabbed them. The police called the club back, brought the bag around and the kid had all her stuff back within fifteen minutes of losing it.

She then had to spend two hours at the copshop giving a statement, but, hey, if you don't look after your bag that's the least you can do.

I know we have a few Met officers on the forum. Take a bow, boys and girls. As Cole and Ella would have it......

Wearing and using one of these instead of using a handbag makes the act of theft more like a treasure hunt.

They are a bit awkward to deposit on the dance floor to dance around though.

I'd heard police policy in the Brixton environs over the last few years, had been to focus on such types of street crime prevention, with the effect that Brixton itself is a very safe area.
Brixton now seems to be something of a destination for London young people, particularly with the market hall area becoming something of a south London hipster hangout in the evenings.
In comparison, much of the say drug related crime had been pushed out and up the hill towards Streatham...
