But your initial question was about whether halfords would give you a box? I assumed you meant you planned to ask them? My local one is open until 7, if not 8. I'm sure any buyer will wait a day if needed

There's a simple solution that does not involve the uncertainty of paying a visit.

1. Ring the branch.
2. Ask them if you can have a bike box.
3. If the answer is yes arrange a mutually convenient time for collection.
   
4. If the answer is no think of an alternative solution to the problem - perhaps cellotape a lot of golf club boxes together.

Went to Halfords. Asked nicely.

Got box.

Can't get bike in. Turns out it's 650 X 190 and not for an adult bike!
