Greetings all

I leave my commuter bike (Specialized Sirrus) outside with a cover over it so it is quite exposed to the elements. I generally ride it every weekday although over the Xmas period, it will have the odd 3-4 day rest without use...

It also stays outside at work.

With the colder weather, I was wondering whether I should be doing anything "special" other than the normal maintenance that I do to help it through the winter?

I would rub any exposed cables over with an oily rag or even some vaseline to prevent corrosion. Work some light oil into the cables where they go into the outers. Give the chain a spray of Mr Sheen wax polish to prevent corrosion. If you have any chromework, rub some vaseline on it to protect it. Clean the frame paintwork with Mr Sheen or some car wax polish as well and water will drip off it better.
