Bike fit/clipless question

There's a bit of play in my pedals so I'm taking this as gods way of telling me to go clipless. I've also been pondering on having a bike fit also.

Would I be better fitting the pedals and spending some time riding with them before a fit, or do both together?

I would say put them on before the fit because...

1-You will get used to the feel of being clipped in
2-You will be able to tell the fitter what problems, if any they have caused. Otherwise he will have to fit them in a neutral position and hope for the best.

Although I would call the fitter and ask his opinion.
