I wouldn't quite call it a hobby*, but bird watching goes well with cycling. I've only got a pair of cheap and heavy binoculars so I rarely carry them around with me but it's surprising how easily bird song and calls cut through the noise of traffic and wind. And it's usually very easy to stop quickly and have a listen and a look. Quiet riverside paths are ideal and they perfectly suit my hill climbing abilities .

I was lucky enough to get a good lightweight pair of binoculars cheap especially so I could take them on the bike - tho' when I see something interesting I have usually forgotten them!

I carry my ridiculously heavy and expensive bins with me. Sometimes I curse the weight but it usually pays off. Highlights in Portugal were hoopoe, montagu's harrier and azure winged magpie...

Do eating steak and drinking Pinot Noir count as hobbies?

I of course bring a tonne of ebooks. I don't carry a real camera but do take iPhone snaps and video for a blog.

Part of my initial impetus for taking up cycling, besides losing weight, was to get to better locations for photography, locations you would miss going by in an automobile. Now, much of my photography seems to be cycling related. This is how people become permanently confused. Even others. I once, on a ride, heard two other folks arguing over whether I was the "Great Big Photography Store Guy"or "The Cycling Guy"
